Rita Minehan

Rita Minehan csb is a Brigidine Sister, a native of Co. Tipperary, Ireland. A secondary school teacher and psychotherapist by profession, she taught in second level schools in Mountrath and Dublin, Ireland.

 

She has held a number of leadership roles within her congregation and also worked as Assistant Secretary for the Conference of Religious of Ireland for five years.

 

A founding member of APT (Act to Prevent Human Trafficking) she worked at raising awareness about the issue of human trafficking in schools and colleges. She was a volunteer psychotherapist with Ruhama, working with women affected by prostitution and human trafficking. 

 

As a member of the Board of Afri (Action from Ireland) a Dublin-based NGO that promotes human rights, peace, justice, and environmentalism, she was involved with its St. Brigid's Peace campaign and its Justice and Peace Conference each year since Relighting the St. Brigid Flame in 1993.

 

Rita was instrumental in the development of Solas Bhríde Spirituality Centre and Hermitages overseeing the project from initiation to completion in 2015. Since then, as a member of the Solas Bhríde team, she has been involved in the creation of several initiatives including its pilgrimage programme.


Having published her book Rekindling the Flame: A Pilgrimage in the Footsteps of St Brigid of Kildare in 1999, Rita has recently completed a revised addition. Currently with the printers the book will be available in December 2022.
