Dr. Emer O'Toole

Emer O'Toole is Associate Professor of Irish Performance Studies at Concordia University, Montreal. She is an author and theatre-maker.

Her book Girls Will Be Girls is about gender and performance. Her academic work is focused on activist theatre in Ireland.

She contributes to publications including The Guardian, The Irish Times and The Independent, most often on matters relating to feminism and Ireland.

Importantly for this gig, she digs Brigid – whether in Saint or Goddess form – and she wants you to know that Ireland's lady patron saint once performed a miraculous abortion.

This volunteer-led event is proudly sponsored by the Government of Ireland Emigrant Support Programme, the Vancouver Consulate General of Ireland and a number of local businesses

We acknowledge that this event takes place on the traditional, ancestral

and unceded territories of many different Indigenous communities

stretching across this beautiful land we now call home.

As immigrants, we commit to learning about the rich culture, heritage and traditions of the Host Nations and look forward to working with them in partnership.
